Carborundum grit is used in intaglio printmaking, it is a grit that comes in Fine, Medium and Cause. The grit is applied to a printing plate and these areas of the plate will hold a large amount of ink. The resulting effect is a rich, dense area of colour when the plate is inked up. The grit can be applied in different ways to create a range of marks and textures on the plate. It can also be used in combination with Drypoint mark making, as these two techniques have diverse and complementary effects on the printing plate.
